Default 2001 motor in 1987 frame?

All, apologize for the "ignorance". I've been out of thr game for a bit and have forgotten some small details. I have a spare 2001 motor and I found a 1987 frame. I was wondering if the motor would bolt into that without any issue? Are there any small details between the motors that I cant recall that would keep it from bolting in?

Thanks!

From what I've read on here except for the kickstand mount it will fit. The 5 speed motors stick out more at the back of the primary so the mount has to be cut off and moved / rewelded etc.

IT will bolt in with little to no issues. frames from 1986-2003 didn't change at all for the engine mounting tabs.

I've accumulated the parts to do the same thing and this article shows how easy it is to move the stand.

I hate any sidestand that's not the classic Harley big twin style so mine will get one of those. The big twin mounting block is easy to copy if I decide to weld one on.

.....
I did know that my flat track Sportster had a 4-speed type frame and a 5-speed engine. I wasn’t aware that was a thing; I had assumed that it had been crashed and rebuilt into any available frame.

I didn’t know about the sidestand mounting, either. I did know that the bike has a short sidestand, from a Hugger or something similar; I carry a piece of 6”x2” timber to serve as a foot for it, to improve the angle and spread the load on soft ground. I’d assumed that this was fitted to keep it tucked away when retracted, but now you mention it, the mounting is definitely further back than stock (of course, both might be true)
