Default Suicide / Jockey Shifters No Pivots

Hi All,

So my local fabricator has come back with a 12mm steel bar nicely shaped as my hand shifter however, theres no room for a pivot meaning it will be mounted directly onto the tranny shaft.

its approx 40cm in length so was thinking about using one of those steering dampers you usually find mounted to sports bike handlebars and having this in place attached to the bar to soak up and vibration and to keep a steady back and forth movement.

Let me know your thoughts, I've seen the feedback about heavy bars mounted direct to the tranny and could cause wear on the seals and forks over time.

Finally, I've shortened my clutch cable and attached it to the existing gear shifter on left side using cable grips and springs. Its on an incline and doesn't spit out any primary fluid ... probably just!

I might be wrong on this, it's a long time since i was in physics class at school but won't a long lever put strain and increased wear on selectors etc as it allows more force to be transferred?

How is there no room for a pivot? This can be accomplished many ways. Just perform a web search for Harley suicide, jockey or hand shift and you will see many examples.

A long lever isn’t a good idea. The steering stabilizer thought may reduce random gear changes and stop the handle from rattling around. Its not going to take the load off the shaft.

Was up late last night, I made a bracket that attaches to the top right of the primary cover and the rear where the earth bolt is. I've asked the fabricator to make me another bar so I can attach the gear linkage. I've included a picture I found online showing the approach .. only difference is my 12mm bar doesn't look at pretty.
