Default Aussies - Queensland Bikie Laws? (VLAD)

Just curious, how do all you Aussies feel about the new bikie laws in Queensland? Is it something that you feel impacts you? How do non-bikers feel about them down there?
I'm an avid reader of agingrebel.com, and there's been a lot of talk about the anti-bikie laws over there, but most of those guys are club guys. I'd love to hear about how you guys feel about all of it.

For my fellow yanks who aren't familiar, here's a link to the wikipedia page for the laws: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicious...hment_Act_2013

"The Act applies to legal organisations and "any other group of 3 or more persons by whatever name called, whether associated formally or informally and whether the group is legal or illegal." Similarly it defines office bearer of the organisation to allow for informal roles, with the defendant required to prove that they are not an office bearer."

Basically there is a list of "banned" clubs, which includes most international 1% clubs. Club members, associates, family members, and other non-1% clubs are being prosecuted under the reach of this law.

i live in south east queensland. Basically all the clubs round here were getting more and more brazen with their 'business practices' that and the Hells Angels were increasing thier numbers on the coast, and ruffling the feathers of the clubs already here. SO the govt. had to remind joe public that they were the biggest and baddest club around, so they made wearing 1% colours illegal, as well as associating with 1%ers. It's driven them all underground, where the govt. can pretend they are a dying breed again. A fair few guys were getting pestered by the cops, cos if noones wearing colours, anyone with tattoos, could well be a biker from a distance ( and the on the coast pretty much everyone has a tattoo or three ) but that seems to have calmed down now that its not front page news. And the clubs are no longer having brawls in broad daylight at fast food shops, mma fights and casinos.

I can't say this has touched me directly, in that I haven't been stopped by the police and hassled. I guess I don't look like a 1%. But it has caused a stir amongst targeted and non-targeted riders and changed the way some groups ride; including non-patch riders.

I used to live on the Gold Coast and have friends still there that are ex-patch (like 20 years ex) and they were getting stopped every time they went out on their bikes in December/January; photographed and questioned regularly. They say it has finally settled a bit. And needless to say, they are pretty pissed about it all.

Regardless of that, I am horrified that these acts were passed into law, especially given their potential for abuse. I usually don't have much to say with respect politics, but IMHO this government has dealt with this issue in an extreme manner that has violated the personal freedoms I expect to be able to live with in Australia. I believe that the problems could have been dealt with adequately under the pre-existing laws.

I read somewhere that there are plans to revoke all government approved licenses, like electricians for example, from anyone associated with the OMGs.

Bad laws, should never of been passed. Makes me glad I live in a relatively lawless Canberra.

Skinny,
Great topic & will be good to see others opinions on this subject. Im in nsw. Like others, it hasnt really affected me personally but worries me just the same. I remember when it was on the news & i was horrified to hear it got passed. It annoys me more than anything & i regularly think our way of freedom is being constantly assaulted by our polliticians here in Australia. Imagine if they applied guilt by association to all the corupt police & govt officials that have been caught. Its really some type of archaic third world law stuff. Real modern day oppression the way i see it. Can you tell im upset? I feel better now.

Glow in the dark green... LOL, so they want us to wear the colors of one particular MC over another? That could get interesting.

I think some crank wrote that article, because there is no way they could pull that off in California.

Unfortunately, most would be VERY surprised. Here in the US, the feds have already attempted to obtain ownership of the trademarked Mongols patch, logo, and name. They are basically attempting to make it illegal to wear any Mongols colors or support gear. And - there was a Mongol in NY who just got released after nearly five years without being charged. He finally pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a felon to get out for time served. In a province in Canada, the Hells Angels were just declared a criminal organization. Now prosecutors basically don't have to prove any crime or pattern of crime committed to convict. It's happening more and more. Most of us just aren't paying attention.
This is why I'm asking about Australia. There are things being tested in AUS and CA that will be implemented here.
