Default My 1988 basket case has a belt? Should I keep it?

So after I figured I had bought an 88 and not a 98 like the P.O. said, I also realized the the rear wheel with the pulley and the parts box with the belt was odd. I rummaged through the parts and found the front pulley. Now I'm wondering if it is correct #1, and #2, can I and should I transfer it to my 89? Pros and cons?

Going by this it will fit.

I like the belt drive, set and forget no oily mess.

My chain has obviously stretched. Hopefully I can find the nut and tab for the pulley nut.

I know I would like to change my 1988 over to belt but I don't know if the kits are still available for a price this cheap SOB would pay!

I know I like the belt on the 1992, well except the two times it broke! But hey, I pull a sidecar and had tools and spare belt in the trunk of sidecar so not that bad a job to do on the side of the road.

Probably jinxed myself next ride it will break again!

I'd keep it. But. I keep everything.

Cuz I never know when the next bike will need it.

Got a guy who is supposed to be buying the bike. He is really slack at making any payments. I need to decide which bike to keep it on.

You probably know what I am thinking. He can have the chain drive. But then again. I got spares < sprockets>.

I greatly prefer belts though I started riding long before they were offered on Harleys. I would install a new drive belt when you swap the pulleys over since 1988 was a very long time ago and belt technology has improved. Sportster belt changes are trivially easy so chain has no advantage except gearing choice.

I'm also remembering that time my front pulley on my 93 puked on me. I think I'll let this rare belt set up go with the bike.

Well I'd make an offer if you were selling it as a kit but then I'm probably too cheap to pay what it would be worth!
