Default Dynatek 2000i install

I got the dynatek 2000i and thought I could wire into the stock harness. Put pins on my white pink and violet wires and hooked them to the white/black pink and violet wires in the 6 pin harness under the bike that the stock ignition module hooks up to. Seems not to have power with ignition turned on.

Use a multimeter set on 20v DC scale...

The stock Coil & Ignition Module are fed power on the WHITE/Black wire - It comes from the RUN/STOP switch, which is fed power on the Grey wire from the Ignition Fuse...

Make sure the Coil is powered properly (WHITE/Black wire) - then be sure you are feeding power to your 2Ki module on the WHITE wire... The PINK wire from the 2Ki is the trigger signal for the coil (opposite connection from power)... The 2Ki module is grounded thru its case in the nosecone, so be sure the engine is grounded properly...

Here's the 2Ki install instructions:

Yes I've got the install sheet. That's how I know what color wires to connect. My question is more, I'm correct in believing I can install through the existing connector yes? The wires in that connector go where they're supposed to go,pink and white black to coil and violet to the voes. Is there a reason I can't use the connector? I'll try and verify voltage tonight after work

yes you can connect it to the 6 pin Deutsh plug.
However you have to remember that this module takes the ground through it's body, unlike the original one that has dedicated black wire for it.
So, did you have your D2Ki mounted or just hanging while being tested?
Also you can utilize green wire that was used for BAS to run new wire for tacho. Disconnect BAS sensor (battery tray), cut the green wire that goes to the 6 pin Deutsch plug and extend it to your tach.
You can also run blue wire if you gonna use single fire coil and connect it to 6 pin Deutsch plug (one pin is free).

Dynatek was installed in the nose cone, not hanging. I do wonder if the ground isn't great, I think there might be some powdercoat in the area of the dynatek. I'll pin a wire and ground it through the connector with a ring terminal on the screws that hold it down, see if that helps and verify 12V on the white/black wire.

My only worry about using the existing connector is that stock on the sportster the tach and ignition wires are the same pink wire, but I don't have a tach so there's nothing connected there.

Yea, powder coating is likely your problem (lack of good ground).
Regarding the tach, there is nothing to worry about, if you gonna use stock dual fire coil then leave the tach setup alone (tuck off green tach wire). If you want to mess with it and make it right, then cut the pink wire above the coil that is going towards the headlight (to the tach) and extend it down to the battery tray, disconnect the BAS sensor and connect extended pink wire with green wire that is going down to the 6 pin Deutsch plug. Now you have direct tach signal that will work correctly with single or dual fire coil.
