Default Confirm LH thread please, drive sprocket

Hi, I am having what seems to be a common problem with the neutral switch on my 2004 883 XL not working and need to get the pulley off.

I have tried a 4 ft bar with a 3/4 drive 1-7/8th socket, with a mate standing on the brake and the belt still fitted.

No go.

Been trying to give a small amount if heat, with initially just a hot air gun. Not keen on hitting it with gas flame and cooking the output seals.

On that thought, is that output seal an easy change without stripping the crankcase, so is it changeable from the outside with motor in the frame?

And the other question as per the thread title...is it a Left hand thread as I have been told ?

What a place to fit the neutral switch ! grrrrr

Thanks

Neil P

Yes, it is left hand thread. Get the tool to hold the "pulley". It makes the job MUCH easier.

Thanks
Trying to source a tool at the moment.

I am on the island of Jersey, and despite a posting on the local HOG group no one has come forward with a tool yet.

One supplier in England has said he has 20 of them in the shop somewhere..but can't find them at the moment. Can only find them on ebay, in the USA, and the cost is a bit hight..£50 isa for eh tool plus near enough the same for the postage.

So yes, will get the tool when I find one for less than $150 USD shipped to me!

"$150 USD shipped to me" is a bit steep.

It needs a sharp jolt, the sort of jolt a impact gun can provide. Borrow a impact gun, 3/4 drive if you can get it, you already have the socket.
I get mine off by myself with just a 1/2 breaker bar and copper hammer. So you could try giving yours a good wack if you have a decent size hammer.

Depending on the gun you'll be okay. I take them all off with a 1/2" air impact. If it's never been off that is the hardest part. Just crank the gun up and hit it hard until it comes loose.
