Default Are You Insane?

That's about all I've heard so far when I tell people I've just tore my bike down to the frame. My answer... we'll see.



Here is my thought process so far.

Flander's broomstick drag bars: on order
3" risers: on order
Chop/paint rear fender
Internally wire everything

Here is where I could use some experienced advice...
I want to eliminate my speedometer but am worried about how this will effect the communication chain which includes the TSSM and ICM. Does anyone have experience with this?

usually i ask before teardown. how about pics of engine mounts and assembly for rubbermount owners? like exploded view pic you see im manual. would be cool to see how they are put together. are you painting/powdercoating frame?

Are you insane?
Looks like fun. I used to strip mine down to the frame like that just to flip the engine over and drain the oil out. Make refilling the primary through the drain hole a lot easier too.

1 question, and 1 opinion:

- What are you planning that required you pull the motor?

- I had the broomstick on my bike for about 2 months. I got rid of it because it put my wrists at an angle that became painful after only a short time. They really make you contort you arm to reach the brake/clutch levers. Just a thought


I don't think you're that insane. I'm interested to hear a more detailed explanation of what you're planning though.

Speedo or no speedo won't effect much besides what wiring I'm going to pull through the backbone. I just want to know if the bike will operate without it. If it won't, I'll just have to get a bracket for my new riser/bar setup.

The mounts surprised me. The book doesn't really do the job justice. I'll get some pics together.

I'm going to be doing some minor frame mods but will only be spot painting with the same (hopefully close) gloss black. I intend on having this thing running again in three weeks (KNOCKING MY HEAD ON WOOD) so a major painting process or any outsourcing is out of the question this time. Again, I will include pics of the mods before and aft.

got me thinking of the possibilities.
how about weighing parts. wheres the weight of our bikes come from? why so heavy? hey, its winter. dont think i have anything good to add this time of year

Weigh the frame and swingarm first. Then compare that to a 2003 or earlier. I think that's most of the weight.
