From my understanding the k&n 0900 filter does not have that extra metal plate that Sportsters have on their air filter. I just took off my cover, replaced the filter, and put both of the bolts back on.
Not sure what you're talking about here either. What reply are you talking about? What extra metal plate on what year Sportster are you talking about? I hope that I can help.

The stock 2004 on Sportsters have a small removable metal plate on the front of the stock filter with plastic housing that is used to hold the filter in place in the stock air cleaner housing. The The stock 04 on SE filters have a built in front metal plate that is an integral built in part of the air filter which cannot be removed. The K&N HD-0900 filter is made the same way as the H-D SE filter and is a drop-in replacement filter for the 2004 on H-D SE air cleaners ONLY.

If you replaced an SE filter with a K&N filter the K&N filter isn't going to flow enough more air for you to notice any difference in performance. If you gain 1/2 HP you will never notice it.

Basically I went from this: http://i.imgur.com/xTiaFYs.jpg

To this: http://i.imgur.com/2krl49b.jpg

I know that metal plate you are talking about, I don't have one. I kept forgetting to mention I have a 90'.

In the end, I decided I'm just going to get an S&S. This has been more trouble than it's worth.

Drop in K&N on left. Hurricane setup on right.

Yeah, i dont know. Maybe its placebo, maybe ots because i messed with my carb and throttle cables.

Either way, my bike was running hell on wheels today.

I see your filter on the left, mine didnt come with that small metal plate, nor do i have one. Oh well!
