My ecu started giving me problems at 36k miles, i didnt realise it at the time. It got progressivly worse as time and miles went by. At 40k and many hours of testing behind i realised my ecu was at fault.

Are OEM ECU's easy to get? How much do they run? I have never seen one go out and I have never had an issue with my bike, a 2013 Iron with over 80k miles.

It makes me wonder if I should pick up a spare just in case?

I would not recommend it.
Most likely the spare ECM warranty will expire, long before it is needed...if it is ever needed.
