Default Tail and turns wiring

Need some wiring help guys. Changing my rear lighting and trying to figure out the connections. Turn signals have 3 wires as does new taillight. I have a run/brake/turn module but it's wired in further upstream (worked perfectly with stock lights). Attached are stock wiring diagram and wiring portion of the instructions for signals and taillight. Appreciate any help!

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on LIGHTS:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...:elec03#lights

Is your R/T/B Module a H-D part (what #) or an after market one (what brand & #)?

If you are keeping the taillight distribution circuit board, then your 3-wire taillight should plug into connector [93A] using:
Pin#1 (Tail Light Lo-Intensity) ..... ORANGE Wire of new tail light
Pin#2 (Brake Light Hi-Intensity) ... RED Wire of new tail light
Pin#4 (Ground) ......................... BLACK wire of new tail light

Your new Turn Signals have separate wires for Hi & Lo Intensity display - But the distribution board expects to use a single-element bulb (Hi-Intensity Only)...

Based on your image of the instructions, to use the 3-wire TS units, you'll need to wire it as follows:

Connector [93A] as above - Pin#1 ... RED Wire from both new TS units
--- This is keyed power - always on with keyswitch ON - for Running Light

Connector [18A] using Pin#1 ........... BLUE Wire from new LEFT TS unit
---------------- using Pin#2 ........... BLACK Wire from new LEFT TS unit

Connector [19A] using Pin#1 ........... BLUE Wire from new RIGHT TS unit
---------------- using Pin#2 ........... BLACK Wire from new RIGHT TS unit

Hi, thanks for the reply. RBT module is Custom Dynamics GEN-SMART-TPU-XL, plugged in under the seat.

I was not planning on keeping any circuit boards, was going to cut and splice the wires. Using a connector would almost certainly be better but I have no local source for pins or connectors and don't want to wait for orders to come in.

My thinking is that with the Ness turn signals I can have either running lights or brake lights in addition to signals. Thinking I'll probably go with brake lights. Would prefer all 3, run, brake, turn but can't seem to figure out how to do that so one or the other.

Again, thanks!

If I wire it like I said, is the RBT module even needed? Should I just remove it?

Without the circuit board, you can splice into the wires that come TO THE CIRCUIT BOARD (at 94B) - Here's the color connections again:

Your 3-wire taillight should connect to these wires:
HD BLUE wire (Tail Light Lo-Intensity) ..... ORANGE Wire of new tail light
HD RED/Yellow (Brake Light Hi-Intensity) ... RED Wire of new tail light
HD BLACK (Ground) ......................... BLACK wire of new tail light

Your new Turn Signals have separate wires for Hi & Lo Intensity display - But the R/T/B unit expects to use a single-element bulb (Hi-Intensity Only)...

Based on your image of the instructions, to use the 3-wire TS units, you'll need to wire it as follows:

HD BLUE wire ... RED Wire from both new TS units
--- This is keyed power - always on with keyswitch ON - for Running Light

HD BLACK wire ............ BLACK Wire from both LEFT & RIGHT TS unit

HD BROWN wire ........... BLUE Wire from new LEFT TS unit

HD VIOLET wire ........... BLUE Wire from new RIGHT TS unit

I think that R/T/B unit will try to run the Hi-Intenisty element of the new TS units as before - and it may work fine - if not, post back with what is happening...

Thanks again. I'll twist some wires and try to get everything connected and see how she works before I cut the HD connector off. I'll let you know the results either today or tomorrow.

OK, this is what works...

Tail
Orange to HD blue
Red to HD red/yellow
Black to HD black

Turns
Black to HD black
Left Blue to HD purple
Right blue to HD brown
Both purple to HD blue (misidentified as red in instructions)

Signals work for run, brake and turn. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
