Hey read through the thread and didn't really see anything pertaining to my situation.

I have a 05 1200c that I'm converting to a Nightster style bike. Got a pair of 3 wire rear turn signals for it real cheap. I was then thinking I could get one of those trailer harnesses wired up (5 wires coming in, 4 coming out) to work for it.

It all works, but I have an issue. Turn signals work fine by themselves, brake lights work fine by themselves, but if I hit the brake lights with the turn signal on, it flashes fast as if I have a bulb out. Any ideas? I'd hate to shelf these parts and buy the Harley module for the 1156 bulb tails but right now I'm only $30 into it so it wouldn't be terrible if I had to. But yeah, any ideas on how I could get it working with the three wire setup cheaply?

Likely you are cross feeding the brakes/turns, without one way diodes, which a module would provide.
Describe, in detail your wiring.

If red/yellow brake wire is connected to violet (left) and brown (right) turns, at the bulb sockets, the turns are back fed when brake is applied.
When turns are also activated, then the same element receives a pulsing signal, in addition to the brake circuit.
Diodes will partially mitigate that...or use separate bulbs for turn and brake.

A diode on the r/y allowing voltage to flow only towards the brake light, plus a diode on each turn (violet and brown), allowing flow only towards the turns should help...however, there is still the problem of brake light voltage on the same element as a turn, so the rear barely flashes, if at all.

The bottom line is that an electronic module is well worth it. In addition to diodes, when brake voltage is applied, while turn is flashing, the brake voltage is blocked (thyristor?) while the turn is applied.

I'll draw up a diagram when I get home tonight and post it. I was considering the cross feeding actually and I did get some 15a diodes, I put them after the adapter but now I think about it they should probably be before the adapter. I'll try that too and post results/my diagram. Thanks!

Default run-turn-brake

i know you are looking for the cheapest way to do this and am interested even more if you get it to work and how...
Harley part # 68278-07 module for 3 wire/dual filament rear lights.. not 2 wire single filament ... will do it -I'm not crazy about the single filament module and playing w/ voltages to get the bulb brightness-- I like this one better- all plug n' play ..
also down the road if need be (problems) it can be diagnosed using the factory electrical manual ...
there are a few on e-bay -
but for electronics I would only buy new .. you may have already known this, and I have read this thread but can not remember if it is in there somewhere..

Hey everyone. New member here. I'm bobbing out a friends 2009 883 Sportster and I've run into a snag.

I've picked up a fender edge light from HD.com (Part Number: 73420-11). Anyone have any experience pluggin' one of these bad boys into the stock board on a 2007-2009 883 and running it as the only brake/tail light?

The stock brake light is a 4 pin plug (with only the three wires going in). The edge light plug seems to be a 3 pin (with the same three wires going in). There's a 3 pin socket on the board, in addition to the 4 pin stock brake light socket. When I plug the edge light into the 3 pin that it fits, it's doesn't act as the brake light. Do I need to splice the 4 pin connector onto the edge light and plug it into the 4 pin stock brake light socket to get it acting as the brake light?

Thanks!!!
