Default Handlebar Question - collar

Hello Everyone, I am still in the process of figuring out what I have and do not have with my new 61 XLCH. I'm on to the handlebars, here is a picture of the RH side - isn't there supposed to be a collar at the end of the grip section? If there is, is it something someone sells? Thank you

Sorry all, i see I posted this in the wrong section :-(

Thanks Bustert, I was trying to figure out the collar which may be part of the handlebar assembly. The left side (shown for reference) was clearly welded or brazed on prior to chroming. The RH side does not show any evidence of a collar ever being there but photos on the net show a collar.

parts book shows 4 options mostly switch arrangements but all the bars show what you are talking about. perhaps these are aftermarket and are wishy-washy, aka, suitable for the new style and older style cable.

Yes, the bar should have a sleeve like your left side bar does. It was probably removed to make more room for a modern throttle control. The modern throttle control is usually installed over a pressed-on sleeve that corrects the bar diameter. Unless you are doing a full restoration, I would suggest that you consider the modern throttle control, since they work sooo much better than those original H-D controls. That is what I am planning for my DuoGlide, because I value the function over the looks.

Thanks Jim. I am definitely not going to do a restoration on the bike but I do want to take it back to original (ish). Not because it's worth it money wise but I have a lot of fun researching how something was and hunting down the right parts. You hit the nail on the head, there was a pressed sleeve on the RH handlebar. I'll just keep my eyes open for a replacement right side. Thanks again. Joe
