Default Oil pump working, no oil to rockers

So IÂ’ve read about that infamous cam cover gasket hole dilemma, but I canÂ’t seem to figure out exactly which hole everyoneÂ’s talking about. IÂ’m going to pull the cover off when I get home.

I pulled off the oil lines that lead to the rockers, and blew in to the case with a small tube while plugging the other oil hole and there was no air flow like it was blocked or plugged.

Is there a chance the oil passage is clogged? Or is this where th gasket would be blocking the flow?

Default Oil flow

I am hoping you have a service manual. If you do, it has a page, showing the oil flow, from the pump to everywhere it pumps oil. Blowing into the rocker oil supply fittings is like trying to blow air into a bottle. The oil comes from the oil pump, straight to the pinion shaft/bushing, then tee's off, up through the cam cover. If you pull the cam cover(pushrods out first), you will see at the top of the motor case, a long slot in the gasket area. This is the oil port that the oil goes through to get to the fittings you are blowing your air into. This same oil, when it gets to the pinion shaft/bushing, goes into the pinion shaft, to the crank through drilled passages to feed the crank bearings. So, you could have crank oil, and no rocker oil. But the slot would have to be clogged with silicone, or someone made a gasket and did not put a opening in that slot. This oil, also has to over come the oil check valve spring and ball, in the end of the oil pump. If it has sat a long time, before you got it, that check ball may be stuck, but it so, it would have no crank oil. Have you tried to run the motor, with the oil tubes to the rockers off? If you do, don't do it long, as the rockers will starve for oil, and could do damage to the shafts and rockers. Many people use silicone to seal gaskets, and they seem to think that more is better. But I have seen silicone plug some big holes, where you would never think it could. So, you may have to pull the cam cover, just to make sure the opening is open. There is no way you can miss the slot. Top/center, and about 3/4" long, or so. And about 1/4 inch wide.

Arghhh, sillycone. I pulled about a 1/4 cup of that red crap out of a 73 motor, the majority of which was covering the oil screen in the cam chest.

Silicone, it's not even good for breasts.
