Default Changing stock Speedometer mount

Anyone w an eyebrow mounted headlight change the housing for the stock speedometer? I want to keep the speedometer, and I DONT want to side mount it, but the stock housing is ugly. The only thing I can find to change the housing is an RSD kit to relocate the headlight and Speedometer. Not really looking to drop that kind of money for something cosmetic.

I want to relocate my turn signals from the bars to the forks, and would like to make the speedometer stick off less while I’m making the changes. I have an 09 Nightster. Any suggestions?

If you use a headlight from a custom that mounts to the triple clamp without the eyebrow, you can drop the speedo mount all the way down to the top of the triple clamp. You have to grind the holes on the speedo mount because naturally the holes on the triple clamp are closer together by about 1/4". Once the bolts are in you can't see that.

I did that on my Custom after getting rid of that Fugly speedo mount they used on the Custom. The drawback is you really need to lean forward a bunch to see the lights for oil, ignition, turn, but so far it's not bothering me, and most of the time I can see the turn signal flashing at the edge of the lens (they are mounted on the forks).

Ok so if the indicator lights become difficult to see, any idea what all I would need to relocate the lights to the bar like this-

There’s something about a 48 set up. I have aftermarket 1 inch z bars.

That's why I went the way I did when I got rid of the pullback risers. I didnt want the speedo sticking up between the bars. As you can see in my sig, it worked out good.

I’m pretty sure I am waaaay over thinking this. I know there’s a way to make mods so that the Nightster can run the 48 speedo set up, but it requires grinding and machining and I don’t have the tools. Someone commented on a. Different forum about not being able to see the indicator lights on the RSD gauge relocator kit, but I have low bars as it is so I should be able to see fine. I think I’m just gonna splurge and make my life simple and get the RSD kit. His shit is so over priced but I’ve never been disappointed in it.

Get the Factory Service manual for your year of bike. I was browsing through the FSM I got for Christmas and found out the speedo/riser setup I want to do on my 883C was actually what the 1200R came with from the factory. If the 48 has the exact setup you want, you can compare the differences between the 48 and Nightster in the FSM and shop around for the parts on eBay or the local motorcycle boneyard, or go through the dealer to get them.

That's what I did. I used all stock Harley parts when I converted from the Custom speedo mount.

Sarcvicious… the grinding necessary for the mod I explained is minor. You could even drill the holes larger, but grinding them oval on the inside is more logical if you can get use of a Dremel with a carbide tip.

My view mounted to the upper triple tree and stock top plate from a late 90s model that accepts the stock indicator lights.
The stock 4 1/2" riser assembly is the fugliest thing I've ever seen imo and even fuglier with apes. It had to go and I didnt want anything sticking up between the bars.
1 1/2" risers.

Front view. Nothing sticks up between the bars.

I remember comparing photo's with you back when I did mine. Did I get the idea from you, or did we both do it then discuss it later?

Except you have the indicator lights still on top of the riser clamp. Mine are part of the speedo bracket so they are down where the top of the triple tree is. A bit hard to see, but better than seeing them too much.
