6 is the usual heat range for the IronHead application, AFAIK. It is what I have always used and recommended.

I have never tried the hotter plug because mine have always been a nice, clean tan color with the 6. Different carbs, different environment, different this-that-and-the-other-thing

I chuched a set of NGK BP6HIX in. Latest sooperdooper stuff and the bike likes them. Gapped to 0.9mm out of the box.

napa didn't have thee ngks, so went with equivilant of champion-

went very well- thanks to all the helpful tips, esp Mick.

was able to shrink wrap the ends (I cut the 2 not needed wires shorter) to the current wire, and pull it through quite easily. Timing was a snap- started 1st push of button and runs great- sounds good too

my 73, wiring not so much a snap, had to drill hole out, and even then more effort then one would like- but done- all but the timing- I wanted to fix an exhaust leak so getting late decided to wait to morning to put it up at stand and time it, do chain- but I expect no problems.

as many things- my fear of the unknown was greater than reality-

Again- thanks for the advice in picking the Ultima, and the install tips-
