I guess it depends on location. Where I am old bikes sell fast. I have seen bikes sell for $3500 - $5000 near me around those years.

The alternator was used from mid-1984 onward, the '82 thru early '84 models still had a generator.

Yes, I agree...some friends more in tuned with vintage bikes told me not to dump money into this sporty to restore because it wasn't highly desirable. Because my 80 is probably the only one in the state in it's original state, it might catch the eye of a collector looking to add an ironhead.

Nice to see Ya back here Hscic.
Have Ya ridden Her much? Ill bet by now She gits to sleep next to a Shovel.
Now its time to let both of them inside the house methinks.
Take some pics for us..MX might even show up for Shovel shots
CL sales are unusual so far this year, not much happening.

Not much once I got my 71 FLH Shovelhead. The Sporty is a lot more fun to ride than a Shovel. The Shovel is a 96 Stroker 4 plug with Super B carb....but no accelerator pump, single push cable so something to get use to. The Irohnead blows the Shovel off the line but the Shovels have a lot more power on the mid-high end.

I initially had the Ironhead listed for $6,000 and I am now down to $3,800. I agree that location plays a factor small population (low demand), low supply.

Yes, she sleeps next to the shovel for now....

Thanks. Did not know that...thought I had to go with the S&S Super E, then need to upgrade the throttle cabling too.

Agree, ebay is the way to go.

Rode my 1980 about 20 miles today to show the bike to a potential buyer. Wow the bike ran really smooth...was cruising about 65 mph.

Anyway, I finally sold the Ironhead....got $3,200 cash.

It has been a pleasure to have been a member this forum. Ride on and ride safe.
