Default I may have Jumped the gun..

hey guys I've looked around for the answer to this but couldnt find right answer.. So i come to you guys .. I have an 88 sporty.. I purchased at a good price some forward controls.. BUT they are for an Fxst.. I thought the only issue i was going to have is the Brackets.. i Mock up some temp brackets just to get a feel for everything.. everything seems ok..UNTIL.. i get to the shifter ..sporties shifter linkage is routed from the bottom.. The FXST forward control shift arm is positioned above the Crankcase...
I was thinking of extending the arm for crankcase shifter so it also went above crankcase.. But seems that the Casing for crankcase is going to be a slight problem...Has anyone done this type of conversion ... or am i spinning my wheels on this ... thanks.. I'll take pics if you guys think it will help explain what i'm trying to get across

need pics but you should be able to move the shifter and make a rod with an offset to clear any obstacles. You can also flip the shifter around to get more clearance away from the case.

I've run the linkage in both the above and under config. my personal preference it to run the linkage over the top as I think it gives a better feel. All you really have to do is flip the arm at the shift shaft and adjust the shift pedal to suit you needs....

OK..been trying to set it up so i can post the pics.. Damn smart phones..I think i figured out one of the main issues.. i was trying to come up with a solution to the current shift lever.. i'll need a new one.. but here are the crappy pics i took.. hopefully they help. Btw the lever is what came with the bike.

A piece of round stock, throw some bends in it to clear what is in the way. Thread the ends and slam some Heim joints on it...presto, problem solved. A stock shift harm will help out though.
