It's expensive and I figured it was a stock motor....now the only thing that is is expensive, is the lesson learned.

Very helpful. I've been racing a while but HD's are new to me.

Brakes were adequate but weak, I'm using s3 race compound pads from GOLDfren that help, but I wish I had the brakes from my XR1200. Forearm pump from braking wasn't an issue, it's was cold both track days, which helps that. Clutch pull on the other hand is something I will likely have to work on. It's a four finger pull and i really need it to be 1 or 2.

Can't say enough about how much it helps having a great suspension guy, Bruce Blake at Michigan Engineering. Every thing has been sprung and valved for how I ride and and tested on a suspension dyno. Makes the suspension on my XR feel arcane which is saying a lot because the Showa stuff on the XR is quite a bit newer technology.

Next stop is the AHRMA races at Road America 6/7-8.
Replace the cable if its original. I went with a barnett cable, and its a hundred times easier to pull.

defnately get the colder plugs as Maru said. The 10R12 HD, NGK is a 9 heat range, Denso is the IXU24. I use the Densos.

Default Still plugging away

I raced the sportster the Last two weekends Gingerman and Road America. Middle to late pack finishes, rider talent or lack thereof is a big limiting factor. Bike has fresh motor, but isn't quite right, i need more rev's. Gonna get some dyno time here soon to look at ignition and fueling.

In the picture above, the chain looks like it may be tight enough that the first bump will trash the wheel bearings and the trans output bearing.
My stock frame, rigid Evo 883R based Flat Track bike has rubbing strips fitted for that reason. They look like primary chain tensioner shoes bolted to the swingarm..

hcw3, I'm curious about what kind of rubber you've using. I read through your whole thread and saw you mentioned Avons and some chattering on downshifts...which I suppose happens with any brand.
Are you running stock wheel sizes?
Either way, would you be willing to provide a little insight on what tires/sizes you've tried?

Bike looks good, by the way. I'm considering putting something together with either a 2000 or 2002 frame I've got hanging around (just need to decide which one I want to cut) and a 2000 Buell M2 I rarely ride.
