I have not checked in on your progress in a while. Things are looking great. You have covered a lot of bases since my last visit. Very nice. Steve

Curious how your custom exhaust performs on the dyno, looking real good so far. Best wishes for the Holidays.

I would recommend going with the off the shelf supertrapp 2-1. Its proven to provide great power across the rev range and excellent cornering clearance. No need to dig into changing cams or heads or anything at this point. No need for the XR rear fender either, but it does look good. The 1200s should still be able to clean the clocks of the Thruxtons as long as you ride it right. I can't believe I missed this thread. This is something I myself was thinking about pursuing.

The RSD 2-1 pipe has a true custom bad ass race look... but sucks. You would have expected MUCH more from RSD and the price too! Here is a link but for some good discussion on tuned lengths as well as another nod to the Patriot Defender. It's cheaper than a SuperTrap and you know that pipe can mount up to a solid mount with a simple bracket. Might take a full season to grind off enough clearance though!

BTW, I also have a '99 1200S and some Triumphs too. I forward to your progress!

Sure LOOKS like a full custom, high performance, bad ass, full race pipe doesn't it.

Post a photo of the pipe and your dyno results when you can. I love the Ktm in the background. I had a husky 450 SMS for a track day bike until I moved to Az. three years ago. It was a gas to ride.

So the defender will work on frame mount with very little modification, but it lacks the cornering clearance of the supertrapp. Additionally, the patriot is not available at this time, but maybe later ? Ditching the drag pipes was going to be my first modification (after cutting the fringe on the levers in the dealer parking lot with pocket knife. That got some looks.) They are kinda seducing though, and a good 2:1 cost. Not into eBay yet.
