Idiocy. We have brand managers at the helm instead of RIDERS!

Still can’t wait to line up for one of them “collectible!”, $50.00 t-shirts! That should keep them afloat for the near future. At least I’ll be doing my part.

There hasn't been a Harley factory effort for a long time. Just a contract with Vance & Hines to put HD badging on a V&H engine/bike for NHRA Pro Stock and a V&H built flat tracker. Reading the press release it seems V&H will still be building the flat trackers for Harley dealers to sell (for how long?) but support will end. There will just be privateers competing on them.

Just cause the Factory dropped out doesn't mean people will quit racing them.

Actually, I’m with Harley on this one. Indian built a proper race bike, Harley didn’t and the results are about what you’d expect. The XR750 is at the end if it’s useful life and the XG doesn’t have the potential, on the evidence so far.

This doesn’t mean that I don’t think Harley OUGHT to have a race programme, and I would be a trifle sceptical of the “brand value” of AFT without Harley Davidson, I don’t think any of the other manufacturers have the financial involvement to carry it... but the whole purpose of racing is to WIN, not get your arse kicked by Indian, week in and week out.

“Win on Sunday, sell on Monday” works both ways.

AFT announced that they were going Production Based back in 2015 and all the teams started building bikes based on Production engines. Then Indian showed up with their FTR, and H-D, along with everybody else in the paddock was caught trying to build race bikes from street bikes.

Now that Harley is out, it's going to hurt AFT's Brand Value, as well, but they brought it on themselves. H-D (Vance & Hines) has come up with a bike that can win in Production Twins. James Rispoli won or finished second 11 times in 15 races and took the championship this year.

I agree that Harley should have dropped the SuperTwins effort; but not the Production Twins. I also think AFT should make Production Twins the Premier Class. Super Twins has become an Indian benefit. The same 16 riders on identical maroon Indians plus two blue and white Yamahas bringing up the rear.

In Production Twins they have H-Ds, Yamahas, Kawasakis and even Royal Enfields. And I'd be surprised if KTM doesn't come up with a competitive entry soon.

But H-D has always had a Factory effort until now. It's going to seriously hurt the "Brand Value" of both AFT and Harley. For H-D, I see it as just one more nail in the coffin.

HDs' "factory effort" was to hire (contract with) Vance & Hines. The "factory involvement" was signing the check.

When you (AFT) write rules, the players build to the rules. Funny how that works.

For years and years and years it was the same 16 riders on identical XR750's, with the rules "adjusted" periodically to keep Harleys' antique winning. Remember what happened to (or was done to) Honda when they built a flat track bike? Indian built a bike for AFT that works and made it available. Hard to fault them for that.

Marketing surveys have shown that HD riders don't care about racing. That was a long time ago.

All they care about now is the price of Ben Gay and what time the dinner buffet opens.

Harley has been handed what they've been selling for forty years; racing a production engine against a race bred engine only now the shoe's on the other foot and HD and her loyal fans cry foul.

Ain't that the American Way?

P.S. Getting beat every weekend on national TV isn't helping the "brand value" much either. And dropping down a class to overpower the privateers in Production Twins isn't very impressive either.
