Default Rear brake issue

2000 883 Hugger. Swapped out the cast wheels for wire wheels. The wire Wheels were original to the bike. Now the rear brake pedal has a lot of travel and barely activates the rear brake. Fine before the swap. Checked the wheel alignment and the MC fluid level, both OK. Brake can be pumped up, but once the bike is rolling it goes back to the long travel. Brake pads are fairly new. What did I do wrong?

Check your disc runout. Check the disc to hub mounting surfaces for any thing that might keep them seating properly. Make sure the disc mounting bolts are torqued in sequence. Disc runout will push the pads in and do what you're describing.

Check the rear brake line. sometimes they will disintegrate inside the rubber..
