Oilly......32 years...outstanding....that's a lot of "one days". It looks like you're the reigning champion of sober time. I will have 28 years on the 20th of this month but every time I get cocky thinking about how much time I have, I stop and think just how fragile sobriety is. Just ONE little drink or just one little pill (just to take the edge off) or twist up a skinny one......you what I mean. Just ONE and all that time just vanishes. It may not be the end of the world well maybe the world that I think I can control. For me the biggest problem with having a fair amount of time is complacency. It's sneaky and it's ever-present but as has been said by those before me if you have the support of family and loved ones its definitely do-able and worth the effort.
Ride safely,
Flash

Thanks for that reminder, flash. Yes, I've seen in others how quickly it can go kablooey if one forgets, but STILL need to go to meetings so I can hear things like you said. It's not weakness, just good preventive maintenance, lest I truly forget. There's another thread in this area, and one guy's been sober about 45 years, so no, I am not the most time by a long shot! It's still a day at a time, and it's best that way, to me. I like to let newbies know that it gets easier as we get better, but that daily reprieve is a blessing to ask for every day.

We recognize it and act accordingly, one decision at a time. Congrats to all of us.

This is a sad yet encouraging thread about addictions. I'm not an addict but I have a daughter married to a man who is. Blew through $40,000 on drugs in 6 months. Now is on withdrawal meds and taken up booze. He was raised in a family of addicts, uncles, aunts mother and father. I have two lovely grandkids from this union and i"m hoping it survives!! Just reading this thread of success has raised my hopes!! THANKS for the encouragement, even regular everyday people need help and a spiritual boost at times!!

Congratulations, Michael! Glad to see you update this thread another year, because it means you are celebrating yet again something that makes us happy for you and shows us that it works. Here's a hug and a big cup of fresh coffee: cheers!

OKAY, another bump. This time 10 years for this thread. So far so good. The forum has grown a bit since I started this thread. A lot of people have come and a lot have gone. But to those of us that have hung in here, and those that have since come aboard, have a safe holiday season. God bless you all. Thank you. Michael T

Just found this thread and just passed the 4-month mark. Building an 85-Sportster as my winter project.
