On what would be your 30 inch side I have a more gentle slope. I peak at 28 deg @ 5,500 to 8,000 rpm. It's actually Aaron / Hammers full throttle curve that's posted a couple places, but on the low pressure side I have pretty much a plateau from 2,000 to 8,000 rpm, 50 Kpa (~16 inches) and less. How much advance I'm still playing with but it seems to want 36 deg + in the cruise rpm / 50 KPa and less area.

I got a little more aggressive on the WOT as a test. Jury is still out on that one. If my plugs look like I'm not getting a complete burn I'll back off there again.
I went back to the DCPR7E plugs too.

WOT is the (relatively) easy part. What makes the bike nice to ride is smaller throttle opening (low MAP) low load areas and how they transition into areas where you start making power. There's also a big part of the map where you're doing little but decelerating and just want to pick up throttle nicely exiting those areas.

I understand the "keep the revs up" thing. Look at the stock mapping and you see why. There's no fuel or timing in the under 4,000 rpm under 40% throttle EPA test area. The engine barely runs. Mine, stock, ran like crap down there which ain't good as it's where you spend the most time. Now I'm getting BT type manners at lower revs.

I noticed the same thing when I added timing down there. The shuddering at low rpms, barely rolling all but went away. I just added a couple more degrees down there but backed off again to 28.4 max @ WOT with a less aggressive curve. In fact the 28.4 in the 30 inhg isnt until 5500rpm. 28.1 @5000. I backed it off all the way to 24 inhg which is the power curve.
I'll post a pic of what I have now. I think it's a real winner.

I'm running more 2,000 rpm advance at lower MAP's, 16", 50 KPa and less. I'm pretty constant from 2,000 rpm up with a steeper "climb" from 1,000 to 2,000 rpm. 12 degrees at idle.

These motors definitely seem to want more lower rpm part throttle timing than the maps I've seen supply.

I figured you were. Initial switch 2 is a little higher yet. Mine is considerably higher than any other custom map I've seen tho. I'm going to run this a couple hundred miles and tweak it a little more if necessary there.
Everywhere else is rock solid tho.

Make sure you're rich enough at part throttle. I have an advantage in that PV will show if I've got detonation. If you have a needle with a next size smaller starting diameter you might try it.

I've got the 97 in. The 96 shouldn't be in any sportster according to Steve at Mikuni. The 98 is for mpg but too lean for any performance build imo. I do have the richer 96 and leaner 98 in my kit. The taper is identical on all of them as far as clip position. Only the straight part differs.
Ill be watching my plugs. May end up going back to the DCPR8E again. ;p
