thanks.alot of glare in the other pic. this still makes me think c hawks neck was swapped out for an earlier one or someone ground off the vin pad.

FWIW, for now, I too am in the camp...... that it was ground off.

The screw hole for the tach cable clamp appears to be missing / welded up / or otherwise filled in, as well. So, I'm thinking, someone did some work on that neck casting

Chicken-hawk.... if you're so inclined I'd like to see a few pics of the frame's backbone (with the gas tank removed). The bracket, mid-point in the backbone, should be another tell-tale. But hey, no rush..... get it running good first.
