Have you seen this video from Hammer
In particular scroll to 4 mins 50 seconds

https://youtu.be/F9d-AJ3R6Js

He talks about ‘’Hogging out ‘ the head to bring the compression ratio down with a flat top piston.
Hammer do not like that method as you loose the squish band.
That looks very much like what Alex at FastlaneHeadworks has done to mine ☹️, along with a flat top piston. I did not know, he did not mention the difference, we did not discuss.
My heads were taken out to 57 cc from the standard 49.

He recommended and fitted N4 cams, we discussed cams and I did say I preferred power lower down. The N4 cams lifts the power up a bit. If what I have now been reading is correct, I should have gone with W grind cams. .

Alex turned my bike around in 8 days or so. I had to come up from Jersey which took a bit of organising with his other work. FastLaneHeadWorks is Alex working from his well equipped workshop attached to his home. A constant stream of bikes from what I saw, he does good work, and is well recommended not eh Facebook Sportster Sickness group. Not sure where he gets the Dyno work done. He does all the machining himself.

Alex got my bike done in a tight schedule, and it all worked out well, but it could easily have gone wrong. I only had two weeks in the UK, and Alex’s other ‘day job’ is oil rig related, where he has to shoot off at a moments notice to fix whatever oil rig related machine that has failed. So it was always possible that I could have been left with the bike not done in time, it was the risk I knowingly took to save sending my heads off to the USA If you have a schedule to work to it could prove challenging.

If I had seen those Hammer Performance videos and asked about cams here, before I spoke to Alex, J could have asked him to use the reverse dome pistons and W cams.

But if I was doing it again, I’d send my heads to Hammer for their Sledge or Crush head jobs.

Live and learn, what with my costs of coming to UK for two weeks I could have got more HP for my money. Ended up costing me as much as the Hammer ‘120HP plus ‘ kit ( with my travel etc) to get 84 HP, plus it now looks like I have ‘hogged out’ heads I can’t do anything else with

Alex is a very nice chap, very helpful, maybe he is not aware of the reverse dome piston option. Worth discussing with him.

I have asked that question in another thread..http://xlforum.net/forums/showthread...57#post5801757

You could've done Hammer's 570 cams too and had both the power down low like the Ws AND the power further up like the N4s at the same. time.
