Ironhead Clutch spacing 1979 1000xlh

So I am about wrapping up on the transmission job.. I am now putting back on the clutch's pressure plate. I (believe) that you measure from the inside shoulder of the "pressure plate" to the "outer drive plate" .... my book, a clymber, says that '74 and later are different.. however, it does NOT say what the distance is supposed to be. I should NOT tighten all-the-way to the spacers, correct?

My FSM only goes up to 78. Standard spacers are 1.530 and 1/8" is the proper clearance. I would just tighten down the nuts and measure to be sure it's on the spot.

Ok, so I was actually told "at least 1/8 before reading.. at 1/8 and an additional 1/16, I am all the way tightened (down to spacers) I let all the tension from the "clutch spring tension tool" as, I am fairly sure that you would not want any tension on the pressure plate (when tightening the 6 nuts to gauge the pressure asserted on the springs).

You tighten down just till the nuts start to snug up when the plate touches the spacers

Ez to crush the spacers, so be gentle.
Use a nut driver so you don't overtighten.

Use new nylock nuts.

Well again fearing that I screwed up once more as I had already kinda "snugged" up a little too well. I checked the spacers and they don't look distorted or crushed.. I did just come back from ace hardware in taking Ryder Rick's advice and got some new nylons.. I was just going to use high-strength honda lock. But anyways... back too work!!! Thanks amigos!
