btw: the rubber blocks fell to pieces.
you would be surprised at how much a belt drive can take shock loads.
just be glad you do not have a bt!!! easy to do an xl on the road.
A cushion drive reduces the shock on the gears and primary and also provides less lashing.

I'll be sticking with the belt for now.

i had 2 belts that didnt take shock loads very well, same sporty
ive never broke a chain
on anything

hummm??? i had a goldstar 500 that ate chains like candy.
belt tension has a lot to do with how a belt reacts to load.
my 01 will lift on take of, hard shift to second at 60 and a little air to third at around 90.
never broke one even with heavy engine braking/ acceleration and a lot with no clutch action, just tweaks of the throttle to unload the drive train.

my belts had 55000 [oe] & 5000 mi [gates replacement] on em
i think they were tensioned properly
both broke on wfo powershifts

i too, used lotta cheap chains up in my younger days
stretch n sprocket wear were the warnings of failure that belts dont give

later learned better chains were worth higher price in long run
put bout 24000 on one

just my experiences...

i always bought farm chains, diff animal. a mc chain does not see continuous loading and only a fraction of hp. the farm chain say on a combine see high loads and even over loads. the issue is you cannot find them anymore as china junk has taken over and farmers are all about $$$$$ now. with proper maintenance my 74 ch with nearly 200k has seen 3 chains and one set of sprockets, not counting ratio changes on the tranny which were 3. true belt cords do not give but contact points do play a larger part. like trying to tear a stack of paper, as a whole you can not but feather the edges, rips easily.

Given the new one doesn't look better than the old one I will just replace the belt and use the old belt for a spare.
