Default clutch replacement questions, ‘15 1200

My ’15 XL1200CP is just shy of 16k miles. Replacing the OEM clutch and spring plate with a Barnett Kevlar Extra-Plate kit using a James Foamet primary-cover gasket.

The spring plate was still intact.

Per my ‘14 H-D factory service manual:
- Use 2-3 drops of Loctite 243 (more oil tolerant than 242) on the primary case bolts

- Use thread sealant on the drain plug even though it has an o-ring
- Torque
- — Primary bolts: 100-120 in-lbs
- — Inspection cover bolts: 90-120 in-lbs

The bottle of Loctite 243 says to use Loctite Klean ‘n’ Prime to prep the threads. Could not find Klean ‘n’Prime at any of the local supply houses.

Questions:
- Is it necessary to try and get thread sealant in the female threads of the holes for the primary-case bolts?
- Per some comments on the Internet, Klean ‘n’ Prime is just very expensive acetone?
- I know that some fsm torque values are incorrect. Are the torque values from the ‘14 fsm correct?

Things have really changed since 07 I guess. Besides the torque values and the suggestion of using blue lock tight for the primary bolts, I don't remember seeing any of that other stuff (going to look when I get home). As far as the drain plug, I have never used lock tight or thread sealant on any of my motors and have never lost a drain plug on a motor in 50 years. It seems to me to be a little excessive and more of a corporate CYA thing IMHO.

I didn’t know about the oil-tolerant Loctite 243 until I read the clutch section of my ‘14 fsm. I thought it might be a misprint.

FWIW, Per my ’98 fsm:
I could not find any mention of Loctite in the clutch section
- Torque
- — Primary-cover bolts: 80-110 in-lbs (1/4x20, mix of 1.75 & 2.25 lengths)
- — Inspection cover bolts: 40-60 in-lbs (same 1/4-20x5/8 bolt as current models)

My 1994 manual says Primary Cover bolts should torque to 90-110 in-lbs - so that should be right...
- and the Inspection Cover should torque to 40-60 in-lbs - so I don't know if your bolts are larger...
In any case, I usually just tighten until 'that seems good' from expereince (rather than break out the torque wrench)

Loctite on the bolts should be sufficient to get into the case female threads - just clean the holes...

Oh the mighty FSM just spoken; I have never squirt any fluid in the female hole of any dead end thread. You want to see what hydrolocking do to a aluminum casing then, just do it.

I have repaired lot of holes that just split because of oil or loctite or thread anti-size.

Thanks for replying. I asked about getting Loctite into the female threads because when I was looking for info about Loctite 243, I found this:
