Default CV40 Clean Up

Tore the CV40 apart today, soaked some bits & bobs in the parts cleaner for a bit, then scrubbed them down...

Looks like it has been rebuilt / modded at some point; the idle mix screw is uncapped, there is what appears to be aftermarket internal parts (specifically a needle marked N9E Y & an emulsion tube with a bunch of holes?), and the fuel inlet elbow (originally plastic?) has been replaced by a brass fitting...?

No idea what size jets are in there...!

But from looking at the plugs, and the heavy carbon buildup in the exhaust pipes, seems to be running really rich...?

Probably all stock. Needle and emulsion are anyway. I think they also had the brass elbow at that year.

Have a look at them; they should be marked with the size.

Good to know the brass elbow is stock, less worries about it being installed incorrectly...

The jets are pretty battered, but it looks like the secondary is a 42...

The primary seems to be one piece with the emulsion tube, and the flat head slot for it is already kinda reamed about, so I do not want to mess it up any more (already have one of the four screws on the bottom of the carb all wallered out)...

I guess I should take some pics of what I got...?

42 Pilot is also stock. Try a 45 with a 170 main.
The carbon you have could be just because the heads are venting into the airbox. They need to vent to atmosphere. Loads of threads on here about that.
Pics if you can.
The N9EY needles not bad especially with 1 shim underneath it, but most go for the N65. Try CVP for replacement parts.

Second to last pic, tip of that part is all chewed up...

Note only two holes in emulsion tube with eBay rebuild kit (compared to the sixteen holes in tube that was already in carb)...

Now, is that a removable main jet at the top of the emulsion tube...? If so, I will need to use some vice grips to remove it...?

Oh, and I have to scour the garage floor for a c-clip that took off when I was removing it...! Good Times...!!!

Definitely you need a new S/F mixture screw, and yes... there is the jet on the emulsion tube.
