Been using the highest octane I can get athe station that sells gas -- I try to use Shell Gas exclusivly - My first ride was an 93 883 and when I bought it the dealer told me to stay away from Exxon Gas as that had something in it that caused the pipes to BLUE? I never saw that but stayed away from Exxon - As for the kind of plugs -- I just changed mine in my new 1200 and used the stock OEM replacements -- I don't have the need to go 3Million MPH -- I'm just a cruiser on a sporty

Hope this helps some - High Octane - Use the plugs that you need for your setup -- stock is great!!

the service manual for my '79 says not to use 'lead-free' or 'unleaded gas'. I run 87 octane..and ride it like it's stolen!

Default mid for me

I have a 93 sporty thats all stock except the SE air filter...the guy I bought it from used premium for the first 10-12 years and then switched to reg. I use the mid grade and it works just fine...maybe I'll try the premium this week and see if I can notice a difference...the bike has a 145 compression (PSI) rating in the front and rear cylinders...pretty good for 85,000 miles and no rebuild yet...so good fuel and proper maint. do keep a bike running like new...I'll post a reply on my premium vs. mid-grade experiment this week...not willing to try reg...only the best without over kill for my machine.

My 93 1200 never got anything but regular and never pinged.

That said, even if yours never needed premium before, 12 years of carbon build-up from running premium when he should have run reg might have changed that...

I only use my platinum card to pay for premium and I keep it in a custom made shark skin wallet that I carry in the back of my designer jeans. Only the best for the my best wallet that carries my best credit card to pay for the most expensive gas I can find.
