i had the habit since kid to park in neutral my bike... kickstarter bikes taught me that habit...
once in a while, when forced to park uphill... obviously i parked her in first gear

in that cases i had to remember that... when fired up my bike later...

nowadays with the clutch switch, your bike does not roar into life if you have the gear engaged and have not pulled the clutch... (overtime i had to shim that switch though... cause it was not properly engaged when the clutch was completely pulled)...

Hmm, wonder what's bigger the contact area of the kickstand and bracket at the lock point or the surface area of the engaged teeth on the countershaft/mainshaft?!?

I usually leave mine in gear, just because it's in gear when I stop, if I am running the bike on the stand in neutral, I do not bother putting it in gear, either. It doesn't really matter, the bike can still roll in gear, not sure that's a good reason to put it in gear for parking. If you really want to stop rolling when parked, you need a brake lock or disk lock. AFAIK the Harley locking side stand works as well as the brake locks.
