4-Speed clutch support bearing
Hi Forum.
I will be doing the "harton" fix on my clutch this vinter like member harton did on his Iron Head.
It's in the I-H stickies
http://xlforum.net/forums/s....php?t=1678442
I make this tread on my take on it thru-out the vinter, hopefully making it easyer for Evo owners to find it...

...and btw, the hub is a Barnet Scorpion, not that it matters though for this fix.
Serrated portion is made by me to cure a loose fit for the basket bearing.

Yes I will, currently waiting for a new boring-bar to make the sleeve to hold the bearing into the trap-door.
It is to be made of a big chunk of steel so a lot of material to remove,
I needed a sturdier one to take bigger cuts.

Just one thing, as one can se my basket is the V-tvin one with encapsulated magnets.
However the wobling has caused it to touch the stator quite hard making some pretty big dents in the shield.
Moving my small hammers head around the inner radius, I can feel one spot that is lacking of magnetism, so it seems one of the magnets is crushed in there.
It still charges however so the shield works and has avoided any catastrophic failure.
I may scavenge the magnets from it and fix my original basket with them since this V-twin one has gotten its slots for the friction-plates worn out pretty fast.

I'm thinking to do this also. I'd just like to know, why sealed bearing? Is there not enough oil flow so that could be without seal?

It might work with an open one, but there can't be much oil flingin around inside that hole in the trap-door.
Harley do also use a sealed bearing in the basket and the trap-door too...

OK thanks. Haven't been there yet so I'm not to familiar with the situation. What about that round piece with three screws in hartons post, what is that all about?

Not totaly sure about that one and I don't think I will do that.
I have a feeling it just are to support the hub, that center stud going into the shaft steadying the front of the hub.
I guess his splines were worn so much it was wobbeling about.
I may do the same, but will try without first...
