Default 79-83 dual disc fork spring length

ok, I'm freshening up the front forks 83 xlx. old springs 20 5/8 length. got some new from j&p (vtwinn), 23 1/8 length. oem part number on new springs is right, 45907-80. 2 1/2 difference. cant be right. another 83 xlx fork I have measures 20 1/2 spring. anyone know what a new spring should measure? guess I will put the old springs back in. thanks.

I just measured my original springs from my 83, ,,20 1/2 from flat to flat part of spring,,,,, sounds like some kinda big twin spring maybe
