No, I just would rather it not use oil. It's tells me something is not right. I would prefer it be right.

I posted my oil use after the conversion in another thread, I'll have to go find that number because I forgot what it was exactly.

I'll edit this post with those numbers when I find them.

EDIT: Looks like I was using about 1 quart every 2000 miles. More than I would like.

Regards,

Matt
I agree with you....I wouldn't like it a whole lot myself....but there's a few folks here that would trade with ya in a heartbeat....

I've said before that the Moco's idea of "excess oil consumption" is ridiculous...BUT, I guess they have to draw the line somewhere...

Thank you very much for staying within the confines of the specific definition....

Your exception is certainly noted...

What I am saying is if your main concern would be that there could be higher oil use then a 10.5:1 cr is probably not for you. I can make kits with less compression. All you have to do is ask.

I think I can say quite comfortably that looking now ONLY at converted bikes will show the difference from TOTAL Rubbermount concerns about oil consumption...AND show the percentage of conversions with problems....its a statistical analysis, not necessarily a means of understanding the "problem"

What I'm getting at is that I truly think this is all much ado about nothing....

That's my BELIEF....

This poll won't help folks understand WHY this is happening....this poll is designed to find out if the average Rubbermount owner considering a conversion really should GIVE A CRAP about the "issue" ENTIRELY, except perhaps for some common sense limitations and warnings...

Would I like to understand the phenomenon? Sure I would, but a poll's not gonna get me there....FIRST, let's find out if we should even GIVE a crap....IN GENERAL...

This is in no way taking lightly the concerns of those affected....I'm just "doing the math" for a moment....

(A side note for those who wrote and asked.....the non-rubbermount owner who shows up in this poll by name is NOT counted in the statistics...I have already fixed it.... )
12.5 % has nothing to do with this thread.
That was a rubbermount poll, Right !

This is about rubbermount conversions, and if you truely think this is
"much to do about nothing" you are wrong or high.

If you have a rubbermount with a conversion, you have about a 50/50 chance of having a problem....... in my opinion.

I for one in general " give a crap "

Unbelievable

you are not helping to see what the real numbers are from people on this forum, so why don't you stay out of the poll.

thats like me voting on a poll regarding ironheads, it would be stupid.

All right...I voted this time. I'm not really sure where Cantolina is going with all this, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like it!

As I stated before, since I haven't really tried looking for the reason for oil consumption I feel really bad taking any part in this. Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for the guys that are convinced they got bad parts. But, I would have NO WAY to determine that I'm in that camp or not.

My build, for the record (in this poll) is a 883 -> 1212 NRHS conversion, stage 2 883 heads, SE 497 cams. A shop out in Ohio did the tear down/assembly work. I have little confidence in their work. Heat cycling? Not likely (I asked and was told "uh, yea I'm sure the mechanic does whatever"). They definately ran the bike before I got it.

So many variables seems impossible to link everyone's problems together.

OK, so what is your point ?

I have a converted rubber mount that was using a quart of oil every 500 mi.
Hopefully it won't after I get it back together again.........

Ok I voted and yea I had excessive oil use after the conversion but none before.
I had a NRHS 1250 10:1 conversion done (note not 10.5:1 or higher which now seems to be being used as an excuse). I kept the heads and cams stock. I had a local indy shop that is very experienced and highly capable do the install. After a few thousand miles the Indy shop pulled the heads back off and changed the valve seals for free because they knew I was pissed off about the oil problem. It didn't help at all.
