Apparently my war against the leaking primary has not ended. I haven't ridden the bike in a couple months because its just been too dammed hot in FL but was hoping to spin it up again in the next few weeks, however I have a good sized puddle of oil on the floor again beneath the transmission. While the seal at the case appears to be holding up just fine I noticed a shiny streak on the face of the sprocket originating where the mainsheet passes through it, behind the big nut. So I am guessing what an earlier poster mentioned in this thread I need to add a touch of silicone on the inner splines of the sprocket to seal that point.

I can attest the james gasket seems to have brittle dry silicone gasket when the seal is bought. Probably why they break. Dry silicone is brittle.

Either long shelf life or poor design. Did the same as others here with home made gasket.
And fresh silicone.

I actually used the factory gasket or at least a gasket ( got from a local dealership. But yeah I've also got gasket material and if adding a smear of silicone on the sprocket inner splines doesn't help then I'll replace the retainer gasket with a home made one.

Does the smear of silicone also work on 4 speed evo as well as a 5 speed? Also having a problem with leaking mainshaft seals. Thanks

Ensure that the retainer is in its groove. It is a bear to get it in there so that it snaps home. You can't just push it in with a screwdriver and have it snap in like you'd think it would. The last time I was fiddling with mine, I bent it all to hell. I haven't been out there since so I don't have a routine to tell you how to do it. Also, it can look like its in its groove but its snot.
