Talking 1975 xlh ironhead 12+ years sitting

1st time poster long time creeper if i did not post in the correct place please let me know
I made the awesome decision of not buying a running ironhead to instead getting a non running ironhead haha hopefully the link below works for pics really nice amf sporty. the thing has sat for 12+ years trying to figure out what my best path with this thing is. The starter was just spinning came to figure out theres missing teeth on the ring gear drive in the clutch basket so theres my 1st problem. My 2nd is im working on getting the piston rings unstuck i have found very helpful info on here thanks to all of you here. 3rd is this baby sat for a long time and it probably has alot of oil in the crank case and right before i picked it up the previous owner filled the oil tank with more oil ive read about how bad the ironheads are with the crank case oil drain plug so i dont even want to look at it lol. Im going to drain the oil tank and them i want to do the crank case, is there any other way to drain the crankcase?

Hopefully after a couple things here and there Im really hoping i can unseize the motor and shes good to go... one can be hopeful

I think that the 1975 has a proper drain plug, and that the ironheads with the bad crank case oil drain plug are the older models, especially those before 1970. Post some pics of anything that looks like a drain plug on the bottom of the cases.

Welcome!
Nice bike with lots of potential. Take some pics and learn how to post them in your thread. Sounds like you're a "reader" so you'll figure it out. I use imgur.com. to host my images.

Nice find.Did you actually check the ring gear for missing teeth? A defective bendix gear will give a similar whirling noise and no crank (also a lot less work to change). Just suggesting not to get all pumped up and start tearing into all issues at once.Good Luck
