I seem to now have the required 3 seats on a garage shelf and one on my bike. Same as I have for my R9T.

'17 XL1200C, seats from worst to best:

Stock. The king of numb butt. As bad as the stock suspension.

3rd place: Harley Sundowner. It's just squishy and weird. No way this is an all day seat unless you love almost all day numb butt. I weigh right at 205 lbs in street clothes. This might be a great seat if you weigh less.

2nd place: LePera Daytona Sport Daddy Longlegs. If I had to choose between the stock, Sundowner and the Daddy Longlegs to go on a 500 mile ride, the Daddy Longlegs is the seat I'd pick. Gives you numb butt but it's milder and shifting around a bit makes it tolerable. Best looking seat of the 4.

The Winner: Mustang Wide Vintage Touring Solo.

Seems ya never know what will work. Sitting on the same "shelf of seats" is a Mustang Standard Touring Solo for my R9T. On the R9T it's in a tie with the stock seat as the worst and is pretty grim after 20 minutes.

Edit: A little follow-up. The Mustang is better for my butt but it also puts me up higher and farther forward which I don't like. I put the LePera back on. I do like the lower, farther back seating position of the LePera better but it's only good for ~1 1/2 hours, then it gets pretty grim. That's half a tank of gas runnin' down the road with my 4.5 gal tank. There's a Mustang Wide Tripper (sits you lower and farther back than the Touring) on order.

i just took my first good ride (about 2 hours) on my new mustang vintage solo.
this is the standard vintage solo, not the wide vintage solo.
im so happy, and im told it will get better once its broken in.
its like riding on a cloud compared to the stock low 2 up, and my lepera bare bones.

Stock 1983 XLX solo seat with the matching accessory passenger pad sold by H-D to match. One-year only parts, fairly rare.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

Mustang Wide Tripper arrived off of back order. I've had a chance to do a 90 mile loop of mixed riding, almost 2 hrs in the saddle, and shorter trips since. This seat has the best performance so far, longest time without numb butt setting in, and it's getting more comfy as it gets some time on it. See post #301. It sits me down and back much like the LePera Daytona Daddy Long Legs but has a better shape and seems to distribute weight better, fewer pressure points.

There will be a pristine HD Sundowner and an equally pristine Mustang Wide Vintage Touring in the Buy Sell Trade Zone when I get some pics taken.

I went with the HD Tallboy and love it so far! 300 miles in. Hips level with the knees not over them.

I have a solo seat. I bought it second hand from a used parts shop. It looked like it was never used before though. Very happy with it but I really haven't seen it anywhere else here. It's an genuine HD part with logo. It's pretty wide, wider than standard solo's I've seen.

I bought it as "Buddy Seat Solo Harley Davidson XL 1200 Sportster 1991-1993". Never saw it before and don't know if it was a standard on a 1200 or if it was an optional HD part? Maybe someone knows?

On the plate that holds the seat to the frame it says: RDW 92/61-0067 and there are white numbers stamped on the vinyl, 087715
