If you were selling a 2-resistor + 2-diode adapter for $20-$30, would you show the schematic...???

I suspect (but haven't torn any apart) that they are essentiall the same...

I think you're right, I have one coming via amazon since I'll be in the field for a few days for work.

I'll update once I get it installed and see if that rectifies the issue I'm having.

So I installed the Baron Customs tach adapter and it did not even remotely fix the issue. Tach reading stayed at 2200 and didn't fluctuate any with throttle input. I'm at a loss for solutions now. I read mixed reviews on the baron adapter, some say it worked others say it only works with Baron tachs.

I found an older model Crane Cams adapter that I came across in an old forum post, I found one NOS on eBay so that's my next attempt.

Anyone have any ideas, what am I doing wrong? Could I be overlooking something simple?

Based on the Baron docs for BA-7315-50 Adapter, here is what their wire connections would require:

Baron Adapter Yellow wire - To HD BLUE/Orange wire (to Coil - Front Cyl Trigger - PinD)(from ECM-Pin29)
Baron Adapter Blue wire --- To HD YELLOW/Blue wire (to Coil - Rear Cyl Trigger - PinC)(from ECM-Pin11)

Baron Adapter Green wire -- To HD Tachometer Trigger Wire (Pink - Pin3)

Is this the way you had it connected?

Have you had the tach on any other bike where the tach actually operated correctly? Maybe the tach is bad???

I had it connected the way you stated above.

However the #3 pin wire is coming from the speedo jumping over to the tach. So I have a single wire running from my speedo #3 pin and its connected to the signal wire on my tach.

When I decided to install the tach adapter I did so with the tach as "standalone". Power=good, ground=good, signal wire from tach connected directly to the green wire from the baron adapter.

Are you saying I need to connect the tach to pin #3 again? and also to the tach adapter?

The tach is from a 2001, and the speedo is original 2009. So I figured its useless to signal the tach using the #3 pin because the older tach should be looking for a dual fire signal which I thought it would receive from the tach adapter. Straight from my coils, single fire to a dual fire tach. Am I missing something here?

I have one of those Baron adapters on mine, wired to the coll and it works on my cheapo tacho (China's finest!). So not specifically for one of there own tacho's.
The electric gurus will be of more help but it sounds more like voltage/signal being wrong?
I bought a Harley tacho, but threw in the towel with it as nothing i did could get it to work.

Yea man! I don't get it, you would think an OEM harley part would work. I realize it would need a little bit of work but it just doesn't make sense now. How would a chinese part work but genuine harley tach simple 3 wire design just not work without a huge headache?

Frustrated to say the least.

The Pin3 I mentioned is the one ON THE TACH CONNECTOR... That should be a PINK wire on the TACH CONNECTOR Pin3...

On the other hand ----- If your signal from the SPEEDO Pin3 is active, it should properly drive the older tachs. It simulates a dual-fire system to supply the proper signal to the tach. (Yes, Speedo Pin3 would connect to Tach Pin3 in that scenario)

But if you're using the adapter, don't leave the speedo connected, too - Use one or the other, but not both connected at the same time.

It sounds like the tach is bad since it seems stuck at this 2200 RPM point. It sounds like when you used the SPEEDO Pin3 for a signal, that the Tach did respond, but not with the correct RPM. But it also does not have the correct RPM with the adapter.

Bad Tach???? Do you know 'for sure' that it works properly??? Tested on some bike???

Correct, we are on the same page in all aspects. It very well could be a bad tach, all I know is its a 2001 takeoff set, I got the complete unit from the guy with speedo and bracket. I had no reason to believe it didnt work, everything looked intact as it should
