Default Good clutch adjustment tip.

I nominate this to be added to the clutch section!

It works. No bad habits, just a slightly reduced pull but more importantly a wider friction zone which is I why I tried the ClutchLite. I had no problem with the lever effort but wanted a wider friction zone, less of an on-off clutch, and this provides that along with a lighter effort. I notice the wider friction zone more than the reduced effort. If your goal is lighter effort you probably want the 40% version based on what I'm feeling. It was $65 well spent.

I'm running a Barnett Kevlar extra disc (no grenade plate) disc pack and a stock (1200) spring.

One note about the clutch adjustment that seems to get obsessed over. The FSM procedure does suck. It is difficult to feel what's going on turning the screw. What is much easier is to grab and check for movement at the release arm where the cable attaches. Play (or lack of play) is obvious there as you adjust the screw. Check for movement there, same direction as the cable operating the release. You can easily feel the clearance change at the arm as you adjust the screw vs the vague feel you get at the screw
.
The red section in particular...
Thanks.
Joe

I've added an massaged the red section into the Clutch Release Adjustment - Why & How section.
See "side note"

Thanks for bringing that up (I've credited you with the suggestion)
I also need the thread link to give full credit to Tomcatt.

Thank you, I've added that.
I put that in as a side note to help someone that may be having trouble otherwise.
I guess it may be an individual thing.
But when one way isn't working, it's good to have different ideas on how to accomplish it.

It is. The FSM method works but the "feel" you get doing the adjustment is pretty vague and doesn't leave you with much confidence you got it right. The "feel" at the release arm where the clutch cable attaches is VERY distinct so you have a high degree of confidence you got it right. FWIW play at the arm that felt "right" to me (clearly still subjective) corresponded to having the screw backed off 1/4 turn using the FSM method.

I understand 'feel' very well.
It's just hard to relate that to others since we all feel things differently.
But I think you put it well.

Just a heads up and I think I found this by accident. I qualify as a luddite...
The little arrow in blue box to the right of the poster in a quoted post box is a hyperlink to the original post thread that was quoted.
Cripes, I don’t even know if I described it so you can try it!

Joe
Edit to add: in this post the arrow just to the right of Hippysmack.

Yep, it is a hyperlink.
And no, I never knew it either.

This forum still has loads of info and features I've never seen.
Thanks
