They die. That's why we don't see very many of them on the road.

I certainly don't want a loud one.

I can't believe this thread is still going. Any time you can make yourself heard or more visible is a plus. It obviously doesn't compensate for skill. But I remember years ago when I traded my nightster with short shots for a ZX6R. I instantly had people pulling out in front of me and drifting into my lane. I put a slip-on on and it went away. You can't rely on that as a sole factor, but I'm sure there's been plenty of times I've been heard before seen.

I agree. Like the other post said, are the percentages of Gold Wing riders dying by motorists higher than loud V-Twin riders? I doubt it. I think the safest things on my bike are the LED headlight and tail light.

I don't think there is such a thing as a quiet Harley. My stock Sportster is not as loud as the aftermarket pipes but it is loud enough for me. When/if they wear out, I'll just replace them with the same. But, that's just me. I'm not against loud pipes, I just happen to like mine the way they are. My riding buddy has Screamin' Eagles and he loves them; they're twice as loud as mine and that's OK. I don't judge him and he doesn't judge me.

Default xxxx Cell Phones

I lost my Kid brother in '93 because he was not seen thru the glare of the early morning sun on his way to work. i have invested major dollars in LED lighting to do my best to be seen. When riding in the late afternoon, early evening with the sun behind me I anticipate not being seen and cover my brakes with 2 fingers regardless of where I am. Being aware of when a motorcycle is difficult to see is huge!
My latest addition to my ride is a set of Custom Dynamics turn signals with running light halos along with a Badlands run/turn/brake module.
I ride like I'm not seen, flash my high beam if someone is signaling a left turn in front of me.

The first thing I was told by my dad when I started riding back in the early 60's was, "Ride like you're invisible because you are. Nobody expects to see you and nobody is watching out for you. Even if you have the right-of-way, you will not be respected."

Just yesterday, a car full of young boys was sitting at a stop sign at a T-intersection and saw me coming past them. At the last minute, they pulled out in front of me in a left turn with the driver smiling at me. It was intentional. I hit the high beam just to let him know how I felt. It didn't change anything and unfortunately, I expected him to do just that so I was prepared. PREPARE FOR THE WORST AND HOPE FOR THE BEST.
