When you checked the up and down play did you do it at the top and bottom of the stroke and half way .

I just rechecked the up and down rod play at middle and bottom of stroke. I was able to get a very slight up and down movement that can be seen on this video

It’s very minute and at times I thought I was confusing it for slight lateral play, but after spending some time on it I am fairly certain that there is just the slightest bit of up and down movement. What does this mean for me?

Bet that's the front rod. Both of mine went like that. You need a full crank rebuild and new main bearings. See about the XB crank if it will fit yours.
Also go right through the engine and check ever thing.
