Cool 1997 Sportster S putting +4 front forks?

any advice? any good kits? I think the S has a little different forks than regular sportys?

new to this bike!

Franks Forks (AKA 'Forking by Frank' back in the old days) has been in the biz for a long time... that goes a long way. TC Bros sells 'Moto Iron' forks which seem to be decent. I went 6 over on my '98 and love the added clearance and the ride. Although I can feel the difference at low speeds it's not as crazy as people make it out to be. I can predictably control the bike with one hand (I made my bars only 22" wide) and with any speed over ~20 mph I can't even tell the forks are longer. The bike tracks straight and true with 'no hands'.

Following as I would like to do the same with my S. Would love to keep the dual disc front brakes though. I'll report back if I find anything!

@locolocal thanks mate! that’s some great info. i’m looking into just swapping my front end with someone from a regular sporty. i don’t really care about the dual front brakes all that much

Good luck with the swap! Keep us updated.

I don't care much about keeping the adjustable suspension but would like to keep the dual front brakes. I think I will have to look for another model's front end if I want to stretch it a bit under those circumstances.

It's okay +4 just looks like a welfare wannabe chopper.
Had +4 a few yrs ago but switched to a -2 wideglide fork.
It doesn't handle very good especially at highway speeds on corners but at slow speed its similar to stock.
If you try to go over +4 it looks very sad, almost pitiful especially when the guy is riding by a real chopper, it screams poor wannabe

super duper +1 on handling change
you will notice slow speed turns will have a higher stall speed unless you rake it to bring geometry back inline.
you will find a harsher ride on crappy surface since the angle of the dangle is changed
i doubt 4" will do it but there is the issue of pogo or harmonics at a certain speed.
this was a common mod back in the 60>70's and is an "OK" look. chopper is in the eye of the beholder, look at vintage hell's angles pic's and footage, even they accepted the look.

Adding any more than 4" without raking it is what looks like a welfare chopper. +2 or +4 tops is acceptable.
I gained a little just putting the Intiminators in and running the same amount of oil. Dropped the rear 3/4" and stability is way better and gave it the look I was after. No more brake dive either.
