Thanks for the vote of confidence, I'll feel much better after riding a couple hundred miles without any hiccups! But at least I have a better feeling at this point that when it started acting up!

A little follow up on the ignition problem with my 1992 Sportster.

It's all back together and just waiting for some good weather to do a test run.

I did dissect the key switch and got a good picture of the internal parts.

If you look at the picture you can see it was NOT full of mud or rust, the black stuff on the contacts was like a fairly thick grease but when wiped off with paper towel there was no noticeable pitting or corrosion on them.

I'm thinking the grease had just got stiff and dried with age and was causing the problem with the high resistance. Hopefully the test run goes well and we can call this one closed!

Yep that's me! I have a spreadsheet somewhere with a list of all the Sportster.org people somewhere but think it is in some file format the MS decided to abandon.

Just a little bit more for the update.

Needed to pick up some small parts for my brush cutter so no time like the present to go for a test run.

Round trip of just over 20 miles and ran fine, even did a couple runs up to red-line just for fun.

Now just need the weather to stay nice for long enough to do a 100+ mile test run later this next week.

Glad you got a short test ride - and all went well...

Red Line runs are fun - I usually keep it to max of 3rd gear - The limiter kicks in just over 90mph... Woo Hoo !!!!

Well could not find time to do 100 but another 45 miles with no hiccups so I feel I can call this one fixed!
