Question 1969 XLH timing

This may have been posted but I could not find it anywhere. I have a 1969 XLH 900 that is running very sketchy no matter how much I mess with tuning the super E carb. I couldn’t find a guide on how to time it to see if it would help anything. It takes a whole lot of kicks to start and using the electric start usually drains the battery after 5 tries. I have replaced and properly gaped the spark plugs. It is running a regulator not a magneto. Does anyone know how I can adjust timing on it at all?? Thanks guys!

Is the Super E new to the bike ?

Timing doesn't normally change on a bike unless someone "plays" with it.
There are good reasons to check the points gap and the condition of the points and condenser. (Capacitor really).
But if the points gap is close to the FSM figure I would probably not mess with it.
As the linked post says you might want to check that the cam is free to turn and "snaps back" OK.

But I find most of my timing problems are in the carburetor.

Your regulator is a timer(distributor). Like said, what are the details? New problem? Old problem with new parts? Or???

Yes, history of the bike is always useful to diagnose issues.
