ok, got it opened up. I don't see anything out of place. detent plate looks good and clip is in place. I have never heard of a drill bit by a number hence why I was asking...you know like 7/32 or 9/32, etc. I live in a small town and no one had a number 32 bit. I ordered one. I think I'll order a new detent plate and clip. Also, appeared all the drum pins are proper. not sure what else in there will cause what it was doing. since I'm this far, I'm gonna replace the clutch plate with the rivets. see what happens when I get it back together. thanks for the advise so far

if your plate is good, just a waste of $$$. the clip has a history. shift issues can come from the pawl springs and arms or less likely worn drum, fork pins and forks. be happy, the trap door is easy.

well, did a check over everything in the primary. very clean and nothing broke. detent plate clean and clip in place. rechecked space with the number 32 drill bit. while in there, removed spring plate and replaced with two steels and a fiber plate. new barnetts clutch cable, adjust primary and clutch, refilled primary with formula 1 and test rode.
