I found two version.
this: http://www.skf.com/group/products/be...tion=6009-2RS1 which it looks like it has a deeper groove,

and this: http://www.skf.com/group/products/be...on=W%206009-2Z which it looks like a 'normal' groove. Which do you think is better?

Normally you fit the 6009-2z with metal shields so it can get gear lube.
The explorer version will also be marked 6009-2z but designated Explorer:

Note the Explorer has a higher load rating

Well I can open it on one side. The stock one was sheelded only from stator side.

Mine is 2Z - two shields. I doubt it would make much difference if it is z or 2z. The main issue is the condition of the bearing. For what it's worth, the SKF engineers advised me not to use rubber seals in the trans.
