Default Sportster Ironhead Alternator Conversion issue

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help!

I installed a new alternator conversion kit (V-Twin brand) on a '79 Ironhead. At idle, the voltage is around 12v and at full rev's it's maxed at about 13.4 volts. After enough riding, the battery will eventually get too low to start the bike.

The bike is all new. New lithium battery, new wires, etc.

Has anyone had this issue with one of these kits? It's charging a little bit but not enough. I'm used to seeing over 14 volts on other bikes. This one is stripped down, with only a headlight & tail light. Regulator has a good ground.

Thanks!

What lithium battery? Some of them require special charging regulators as they don't process the same way a lead acid battery does.

Beyond that, 13.4V at full revs is pretty low. I would agree that you should see 14V+ at that rpm. Even my CE DGV-5000 generator runs 13.7V+ at 2000rpm.

Thanks, it's a Ballistic lithium battery. I've run Ballistic's many times on Sportster Evo's with no issues, however, that's using stock modern Evo regulators & stators. I hoped this alternator/regulator kit would work the same way (V-Twin part # 32-0372). I've seen other posts where people have had over 14v with their kits and they work well. Maybe I got a faulty alt or reg.. or both?

I would want to check the alternator output. It honestly sounds like it is kind of weak.

Thanks. I checked the A/C voltage from the 2 alternator wires (unplugged from the reg) and it's making power. The higher the rpm, the more volts ( from the teens up to mid 40's, almost 50 if I remember correctly). So, I guess the alt is good. With the reg plugged back in, it does seem to charge a little but not a lot. Battery is around 13.2 resting, and the highest I got it to today was 13.4v revving the crap out of it. This just seems too low, again, I'm used to seeing over 14v on other bikes. If the regulator is bad, would it completely fail or is it possible to still send out some 'low voltage?'
