Default VIN search

Has anyone here ever used NICB to check to see if a VIN is "clean"? I'm going to look at a 1974 XLCH frame on Thursday. I ran the numbers on their site and there weren't any claims or thefts on the numbers. Has anyone used any other free online companies? I'd like to check it with another.

Possible: it's been sold somewhere else but not re-titled or registered... yet

Prior to buying a bike without paperwork I always go directly to my local vehicle license office and have them run the Vin in their system.
