Default Battery Voltage Question

I have a spare Motobatt AGM that sat unused for about a year. I charged it 3 or 4 times during the year but the last time was probably 6 months ago.

Today the voltage read 12.5. I charged it with a Battery Tender Junior and it reached full-charge after 4 hours. Off the charger it read 12.9. After an hour it was down to 12.6 and has been there ever since - a few hours. It's been awhile since I used a charger; I thought - IIRC - right off the charger a good battery reads 13.5 or around there...13 point-something.

This is a backup battery so I'm wondering, if it levels out at 12.6 is it worth keeping? Will 12.6 even start the bike? I'm guessing there's a bad cell in there somewhere. If so is there any way to fix it?

On a side note - Yesterday after about 7 hours my BT Plus (1.25mA) just quit. It's about 4 years old and hasn't been used very often. Luckily it's got a 10-year warranty. Hopefully Deltran stands by their product.

Thanks for any thoughts you can share...
-Rich

Probably not.
Maybe, but I would have no confidence.

12.6V after sitting after charging is just marginal.

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on full battery charge voltages:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...y_charge_level

For AGM
100% = 12.7v
75% == 12.6v
etc...

well maybe not
batteries can sulfate when not used. they make chargers with a de-sulfate mode to help break down the crud. if the battery is old, probably easier to get new.

Voltage while cranking or on a load tester would better advise if it is "bad".

Good advice from bustert
