Default Lollipops

Read a few threads where the use of "lollipops" are discussed. I currently have 1 3/4" drag slip-ons matched to standard headers.

Before I get taken out, I know, drag pipes are considered crappy by most as they take off low and mid range power and torque and only perform at WOT. I am looking at going two into one (Supertrapp or Patriot) but i am waiting for the exchange rate to improve (hopefully). January has also been two months long from a cash flow perspective.

In the mean time the use of lollipops and/ or torque inserts look like an inexpensive, albeit temporary, option. A few questions:

1. Can and should both lollipops be used?
2. Importing to SA is an issue. Considering making lollipops (with or without baffle insert). What size should the washer be in relation to the pipe diameter and what size should the hole in the washer be?
3. How deep from the end of the pipes should the lollipops be inserted (3 inches?)

1. A lolipop in each pipe, yes. I've heard those torque inserts don't do anything to help.
2. Make them 1" at least. Or just large enough that you can get them into the pipe. Also they don't have to be at 90*, straight across the pipe. You can turn them at any angle you like, if you feel they're too restrictive.
3. 2 to 3" is good.
You'll probly want to experiment with the angle, until it feels like it's pulling it's best.

Did the lollipops on an 89 Softail, 30" or so drags. Used thumb screws. Definitely made "some" improvement. Seems happy around 45*. Sadly knocks down the decel bark though.

The best solution for "drag pipe sag" was shown at the 4:35 mark.

Well... wouldn't say I'd be bookmarking that for future reference.

Here's some decent reads on exhaust theory...

Also the S&S video posted by Eric does a fair job.
